Abstract

10,961. Duggleby, M. P. June 16. Incrustation, preventing; water-circulation, promoting; evaporative efficiency, increasing.-Relates to means for the economical production of steam from muddy, saline, or other impure waters. Fig. 2 shows an elevation, and Fig. 3 a vertical section, of a vertical boiler. The feed-pipe D is inclined to cause the water to circulate, and keep any solid matter in movement. The feed is supplied continuously, and one or both mud cocks K are kept open to allow the solid matter to escape. The top of the boiler is hollow, and contains a lagging of asbestos. The exhaust steam is returned to the firebox to consume the smoke. When the invention is applied to marine boilers, evaporators, and condensers, may be dispensed with, as the exhaust is disposed of in the furnace.
