Flutes, piccolos, &c.-The head a has a reduced screw-threaded part a<1> and a projecting tube d, which fits within a similar tube e on the body b. The tube e has a flange e<1>, which retains in place a female-coupling f intended to screw on the part a'. The screw coupling keeps the parts of the instrument together, while permitting sliding movement between them for the purpose of tuning. Instead of a disconnectible coupling, a permanent one which permits the sliding movement may be used.
