Abstract

9585. Wilson, A. May 24. Steam generators combined with gas producers.- The hot gas from a gas-producer A is led, through as short a tube E as possible, to a vessel C, in which it gives up heat to air, water, or steam, which is introduced through a tube M, and passes out through tubes L, R to the producer. The cooled gas, after passing, if desired, through purifying and storing apparatus, is led to a gas engine B by a tube Q. The exhaust therefrom passes by a tube S to a steam generator D, and the steam obtained passes by a tube Y to the producer A. The vessel C consists of a rectangular casing having two sets of vertical tubes connected above to two boxes, an inlet and outlet one, and connected below to one box so that the fluid can pass from its inlet down one set of tubes, near the outlet for the hot gases, to the lower box, then up the second set of tubes, near the inlet of the gases, to its outlet. The arrangement is fitted with mechanical scrapers, similar to those in the wellknown Green's economizers. The steam generators may be horizontal or vertical, and are provided with tubes, through which either the exhaust gases or the water pass. The gas inlet pipe may pass through the steam dome. In one horizontal form, the boiler is provided with two vertical partitions, having communicating holes at the top, and the water is admitted to that compartment nearest the exit of the gases, while the steam is withdrawn from the compartment at the inlet thereof. The steam from the steam generator D may be superheated, by passing through the vessel C, before passing to the producer.
