Abstract

8493. Tanner, C. H. J. May 8. Kettles and cooking-utensils are provided with flaps, which are hinged or pivoted to the utensils, so that they can be folded against the bottoms or sides, or opened out to form stands. When opened, the flaps also serve to shield the spirit or other heating-lamps from the wind. Figs. 1 and 3 show two arrangements with the flaps opened. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the four flaps a, d are hinged so that they can be folded over the bottom of the utensil. When opened, they are fastened by pins &c. f on two of the flaps engaging with corresponding holes in the other two flaps. When folded up, they are preferably secured by a sliding-bolt g, which engages in a suitable housing on the flap opposite. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the flaps a', b<1> are adapted to fold up against the sides of the utensil, where they are held by turning the two parts of the double bail handle l in opposite directions over the sides, or by other suitable means. In another form, the flaps are pivoted instead of being hinged. The flaps may be perforated &c., as shown, to admit air to the lamp.
