Abstract
6765. Anderson, J. C. April 10. Disc - wheels; pneumatic wheels; segmental wheels; felloes or rims; tyres, pneumatic &c.-Fig. 1 shows in side elevation, and Fig. 6 in enlarged cross-section, a wheel for use on motor road vehicles. The circular metal disc A has radial slots, in each of which a cylinder B is secured by means of the rings G, G<1> and rivets H, H<1>. Each cylinder has two grooves C, in which slide pins L attached to a plunger K. The plunger is connected to a foot M by means of the lugs k, bolt 5, axle 3, .and lugs 1, so as to allow the foot to oscillate about two axes, one lying in the plane of the wheel and the other perpendicular to it. The position of the plunger in the cylinder is controlled by a pneumatic spring J, which consists of a rubber piece in which are radial chambers J<2> closed by a tapered cap J<1>, liquid air or the like being placed in the chambers before the cap is cemented on. The foot M may have a rubber tread N, or, as shown in Fig. 4, a pneumatic chamber O, which is attached by a plate P and bolt Q. In the latter case, the foot may oscillate only about an axis lying in the plane of the wheel.
