Abstract

5249. Sala, J. March 20. Gas and vapour burners are formed of a casing A, of good heat-conducting metal, with a base B of similar metal, through which passes a gas or oil feed-tube C having a connecting - piece D for attaching the burner to the lamp. The tube C and air openings E are packed with fine wirecloth. The burner top is covered with gauze G, and heat - conductors F pass through the gauze and down inside the burner tube A. In the example shown in Fig. 1, these conductors are rods; in the form shown in Fig. 2, a shaped piece of metal is used, fitting within the burner tube A and provided with bevelled lower ends. The burner tube is provided with a double outer casing. When using liquid fuel, this outer casing is heated by a small lamp to start the burner. Afterwards the hot metal vaporizes the liquid fuel, and the hot vapour and heated air are ignited above the gauze. The burner is also applicable for use with gas.
