Description
J. K. ANDREWS.
Lamp Burner.
No. 59,704. Patented Novl 13, 1866.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE.
J. K. ANDREWS, OF ANTRIM, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO JOSEPH O. TILTON, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-BURNERS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. K. ANDREWS, of Antrim, in the'county of Guernsey and State of Ohio, have invented anew and Im proved Lamp- Burner; and I do hereby declare that the followingI is a'full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being` had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The drawing represents a vertical central section of this invention.
This invention relates to a lamp-burner of that class in which the oil is vaporized before it is burned. It is composed of two perforated tubes, one within the other, and elevated above the lamp-top in such a manner that an ample supply of air is admit ted, and the several parts are prevented from being;` overheated. Both the inner and .outer tubes are provided with slotted caps, and the bottom end of theinner tube is perforated with large openings, so that a current of air passes to the flame from the inside as well as from the outside, and the gas or vapor produced by the oil is readily consumed, formin gabrilliantame without smoke.
A represents my burner, which is composed of two tubes, B O, one inside the other, and supported by a chamber, D, which is elevated at some distance above the screw-cap E of the lamp, and which is supported by the wick-tube F and vent-tube I. Y
The tubes B O and the chamber D are made of perforated sheet metal, so that the air has free access to all the parts, a-nd the wick-tube F terminates in the lower portion of the inner tube, O, as clearly shown in the drawing. That portion of the tube O which surrounds the upper end of the wick-tube is perforated with large openings, so as to admit an ample supply of air, and both the tubes B and O are provided with slotted caps Gr H.
The vapor formed by the oil in the wicktube is mixed with a large quantity of atmospheric air in the inner tube, O, and as this mixture reaches the slotted cap H an additional supply of air is carried to it by the cap Gr, and a brilliant flame is produced free from smoke.
I disclaim everything` claimed in a patent granted to me July 11, 1865; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A lamp-burner composed of two perforated tribes, B O, with caps Or H, in combination with the perforated chamber D, wick-tube F, and vent tube I, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
J K. ANDREWS.
