Abstract

806. Pawel, F. Jan. 13. Driving-mechanism; manumotive cycles. - Relates to auxiliary hand-driving mechanism for bicycles &c. Levers o, k, Fig. 2, are connected by rods h, i and m, n with cranks on an axle mounted in the fork crown and carrying a chain-wheel d which is geared with a chain-wheel u on the hub of the front wheel. The rods h, m pass through guides in a cross-bar q fixed to the head. The chain-wheel u has a threaded boss which screws into a recess x. Fig. 3, in the hub, and on its outer side has an internally-threaded flange z which engages a hook 2 fixed to the fork. Up-and-down movement of the levers o, k causes the chain-wheel to rnn off the hook and screw into the hub. When the levers o, k are held stationary, the rotation of the hub unscrews the chain-wheel and causes it to re-engage the hook.
