Abstract

117. Palmer, I. E. Jan. 2. Loom healds; shedding-motions. - In looms for cross-weaving, a main heald f, formed with alternate dents and needles, works in conjunction with two auxiliary healds o,p, which, in the form shown, consist of bars or plates with turned-up perforated edges. The heald f is guided at its ends by vertical rods i, and is operated by a connecting-rod 17 from a tappet-lever 18, the return movement being effected by springs 21 which act through the auxiliary healds and flexible connections 14 passing over pulleys 15. The auxiliary healds have also independent lateral movements imparted to them by connecting them at opposite ends to sliding carriages 1 on guide-rods 3 carried by arms 4 on the rods i, which are rocked by cams 10 acting upon levers 7 pivoted at 8 to the frame of the loom. The lower heald has a sliding engagement with the carriage to which the upper heald is connected, and the upper heald has a sliding engagement with the lower. The main warp threads are at all times kept out of contact with the auxiliary healds by a lifter bar 23, carried by arms 25 on a shaft 24 and connected by yielding bands 27 with the part of the heald bands 14 between the main heald and the pulleys. The auxiliary healds may consist of superposed needle-bars, supported at their forward ends by vertically-sliding carriages and at their rear ends by flexible connections attached to the frame of the loom, or by flexible connections or a bracket attached to a spacing-bar of the auxiliary heald frame.
