Abstract

Roofing-tiles.-The upper portion of the tile is dished at i, and formed with an upper rib k, and a central groove or drainage channel n to direct the flow of water down the centre of the tile. A projection m at the top of the side groove l prevents the entrance of water into the groove, and recesses o,p in the underside of the tile facilitate the flow of water. The tiles are laid in line one above the other, and the grooves n may extend to the lower ends of the tiles, so as to form continuous drainage channels. Fig. 11 shows apparatus for moulding cement, clay, or other tiles. The plastic material is placed on a metal mould plate z in a table y, the upper surface is levelled by a straight edge, and the grooves are produced by two arms, which are pivoted at right-angles to one another at the sides of the mould table and are operated by a counterweighted foot-lever wand links. The loose mould plate z is raised with the moulded tile by a footlever z<4>, pivoted to a plate z<2> carrying vertical pins z<1>, which slide through the table and bear against the mould plate.
