Seals and sealing. - Securing means for the overlapping ends a', Fig. 3, of a metallic band a around a packing- case &c., according to the parent Specification, is modified in that the sealing- strip b that is caused to embrace the ends of the band is formed with transversely disposed slits i during the operation of clamping the parts together. The clamping-apparatus comprises a fixed jaw e, Fig. 5, and a pair of co-operating movable jaws m, the fixed jaw being provided with a projection d with a pair of parallel shearing-edges g separated by a groove k which is adapted to bend the metal between the slits i in the sealing-strip into an arch h, so as to embed the edges thereof in the overlapping ends a<1> of the band, parts of the ends a<1> being simultaneously bent to project into the rectangular recess c formed by the centrally cut-away meeting edges of the strip b. The slits i may be formed in pairs at short distances apart.
