Abstract
16,068. Imray, O., [Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning]. Aug. 5. Dyes, artificial.-Dialkylrhodamines are converted into their alkyl esters by acting upon the free bases at about the ordinary temperature, with or without the presence of alkali, with an alkyl sulphuric alkyl ester, such as dimethyl sulphate. The reaction proceeds as follows :- The solid product is stirred into water containing hydrochloric acid, the hydrochloride of the alkyl ester is precipitated by common salt, filtered, and dissolved in water mixed with sodium acetate to separate unchanged dialkylrhodamine base, and the dye-stuff is then re-precipitated by common salt and hydrochloric acid.
