Abstract

10,054. Imray, O., [Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning]. May 12. Dyes, artificial.-Symmetrical dichlorodiethylrhodamine, which is prepared as described in Specification No. 9600, A.D. 1888, is converted into a readily-soluble dye-stuff by sulphonation. For example, the basic dye-stuff is dissolved in sulphuric acid monohydrate at 40‹ C., and fuming sulphuric acid containing 20 per cent. of free anhydride is added gradually so as not to raise the temperature above 35‹-40‹ C. The mixture is stirred until a sample is soluble in sodium carbonate, and it is then poured into cold water, whereby the sulphonic acid is precipitated. This product is dissolved in sodium carbonate, and the solution is filtered and evaporated to dryness. The new dye-stuff dyes wool pink and vivid bluish-red tints.
