Abstract

15,413. Carey, A. M. June 19. Velocipede lamps.-Relates to the lighting of cycles by acetylene. The generator is located in the down tube A of the handle-bar C ; the tube A is closed at the lower end B ; and the lamp is mounted on the handle-bar, which is closed at the ends C' to form a chamber for storing the gas generated. The detachable tubular generator E is divided into a water and a carbide chamber by a partition J, which is provided with a valve seating K and an extension or nozzle k. When the valve G is opened by turning the handle H, water traverses the holes e and the nozzles k, and percolates through the perforated tube N to the carbide in the cartridge M. The gas generated escapes through perforations in the walls and bottom of the cartridge to the tube E, and then through perforations y in that tube and in a plug to the space between the tubes E, A, whence it passes by the channel h to the handlebar C. Upon opening the valve v, the gas flows through the tubular channels p, s, to the burner s<1>, which is arranged within a lantern S mounted upon a bracket t. It will be apparent from Fig. 8 that both the handle H of the valve for controlling the water supply to the carbide, and the handle v of the valve for regulating the supply of gas to the burner, may be actuated by the cyclist without dismounting.
