Abstract
13,318. Booker, H. S., and Geall, G. D. June 13. Velocipede lamps. -In an acetylene cycle lamp, the carbide-holder is divided into four compartments, each of which may be brought separately under a water-dripping arrangement. A water reservoir A is fixed above a receptacle E containing the carbideholder Y, which is divided into compartments D<1>, D<3>, &c., and may be rotated, within the receptacle, by a thumb - screw U. The water-supply is regulated by means of a plug, which may be screwed into a V-shaped orifice J in the bottom of the reservoir, and drips into perforated tubes F fitted in each compartment. The gas passes through a filtering-medium C into a chamber B, and escapes through a tube L to the burner. The burner is carried at the top of a short tube N which is divided into two parts and may be screwed up or down in a socket at the end of the tube L. When the tube is screwed down, a hole in the npper part N corresponds with the opening in the the tube L and the gas flows to the jet. When the tube is screwed up, a hole in the lower part corresponds with the opening in the tube L. This hole is covered by a leather pad 0 which is held by a spring Z and prevents the escape of gas, through a hole M in a thumb-screw P, unless the gas pressure is sufficient to overcome the spring.
