12,431. Caillet, H. J. June 14. Single-rail railways.-The vehicle B, Figs. 6 and 8, may be shunted from the main line C. Fig. 6, to a siding by running the wheels 2 on to plates 10 and then turning the wheels in line with the cross-rails D, or the vehicle may be transferred to the line E, Fig. 7, by turning each of the wheels in succession on the plate 10, or a vehicle may be shunted off the main track by means of a guided switch. The sleepers 5, Fig. 10, are formed from a plate of sheet metal having long pressed-out lugs 5<a> for holding the foot of the rail. In some cases the rails are formed from metal pipes 11, Fig. 17, placed in chairs 15, and united by a short length of pipe 12 to which they are pinned or screwed.
