CHARLES IARTINGTON, OF NEWPORT, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR TO THE WEIR FROG COMPANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
SWITCH-PLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 670,057, dated March 19, 1901. Application filed November 7, 1900. Serial No. 35,725. (No model.)
T0 to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES PARTINGTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newport, in the county of Campbell and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Switch Plates, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a railway supporting-plate which is primarily adapted to support the main rail, a rail brace, and also adapted to support or form the track for the moving switch-rail.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap and convenient mode of securing the main rail in position, also to provide a secondary rail-supporting plate which holds the main rail in position against inward movemen t.
The features of my invention will be more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a plan view of myirnprovement in position as used. Fig. 2 is a section on line a: 00, Fig. 1, rail-brace omitted. Fig.3 is a section on line y y, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a per speotive view of the main plate.
A represents the main supporting-plate. It is rolled with a channel A and preferably with bottom flanges a Ct.
B represents the main rail.
C represents a rail-brace secured to the main plate and to the tie or bed-plate on which the main plate rests by means of bolts I), passing through the holes I) in the main plate.
D represents a friction-plate, which is provided with an overhanging shoulder d, which embraces the flange c of the main rail. It is riveted or bolted to the main rail, lying within the channel thereof, but projecting above the main plate, so as to serve as a friction-plate for a switch-rail resting thereon.
By rolling the main plate A with a channel A, formed integral therewith, I provide not only a cheaper plate, but a much stronger sup port for the main and switch rails. Through the holes i spikes or bolts are passed to secure said plate to the bed-plate or tie.
Having described my invention, I claim In a railway-rail support, a bed-plate having a longitudinal channel formed integral therewith and running along the top face of the plate at right angles to the line of the main rail, in combination with a longitudinal plate D secured in said channel, engaging the flange of the rail, and forming a support for the moving switch-rail, substantially as specifled.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
CHARLES PARTINGTON.
