Abstract

9269. Hannum, H. A. May 2. Stamping.-Relates to pinking-cutters of special form, and to dies for making them. A steel disc a, which may be heated, is pressed between dies d to form a series of arches. At the same time, the edges are crimped by the dies to produce the indentations a<2>. When the cutter has been shaped by the dies, it is tempered and the edges are sharpened, preferably by an emery wheel having a V-shaped edge. The sides c of the indentations are vertical, and produce cuts c<1>, as shown in Fig. 5. This form is necessary to enable the indentations to be produced in the cutters by dies.
