Abstract

7722. Winder, J. G., and Temple, W. G. April 12. Banjoes, guitars, mandolins, and like instruments. -The object is to increase the volume of tone at will by bringing pressure to bear on the strings between the tail-piece c and the bridge of a banjo, guitar, mandolin, or the like. The strings are tied round a grooved cross-bar a, and the pressure is applied by a cross-bar e, carried by arms f pivoted in lugs b, by means of the screw i and nut k. In the modified form shown in Fig. 3, the strings are secured to studs c', and pass through grooves c<3> in the tail-piece c<1> ; the pressure is put on by the cross-bar e carried by bell-crank levers f<2>, f<3> on turning the screw f<6>.
