Abstract

7245. Schie, L. A. van, Bezemer, F., and Bezemer, T. J. April 6. Annular-chamber type.-The engine is shown in crosssection in Fig. 4. The disc 9 carries the piston, which works in the annular chamber 2. The chamber is closed by means of a reciprocating abutment 16, Figs. 4 and 10, which is connected by a rod 17 to the lever 20, pivoted at one end 21 to the framework, and carrying a roller 22 which works in a cam-groove 24 in a disc 25 keyed to the shaft 5. The curved part 25<a> of the cam-groove is made of spring blades to avoid shock, and it causes the withdrawal of the abutment from the annular chamber to allow of the passing of the piston. The admission-valve spindle 28 carries an arm 29 operated by a cam 30 on the shaft. Packing-rings 10 working in screw-threaded grooves in the casing are placed on both sides of the disc 9, and they are formed with teeth so that they can be tightened up by the pinions 11<a>. The engine may be made reversible by fitting it with two valves connected by levers so that only one can be open at once. Compounding-arrangements may also be provided.
