Abstract
1894. Toward, T., Toward, W., and Meek, J. Jan. 27. Water-tube boilers for motor road vehicles &c. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, a number of water tubes T and a cylindrical steam and water drum B connect the two flat water chambers S, S, each of which consists of a dished plate bolted to the tube-plate. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which one water chamber is dispensed with. In this case the tubes T project through a perforated casing plate X sufficiently to form a cool space in each tube for the collection of deposit, the ends of the tubes being fitted with screw plugs. The top and sides are enclosed by a light casing, and the furnace gases, after playing among the tubes T, pass round the drum B on their way to the chimney E. Instead of being inclined as shown, the tubes and drum may be horizontal, and the water chambers may be placed much further apart.
