26,926. Shuttleworth, J. J. Dec. 20. Stoppers; sealing bottles &c.-Relates to means for securing the stoppers of bottles. jars, casks, drums, &c. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the neck of the vessel is closed by an ordinary cork D, above which is inserted a seal or disc C bearing a brand. A glass keeper B, through which the brand is visible, is placed on the mouth, and is secured in position by two wires A fixed to lugs A<1> embedded in the neck during manufacture. The wires are passed through holes or notches in the keeper and knotted together on the top. the ends being cut off close, and the knot buried in wax, lead, cement, glass, &c. contained in the undercut recess A<2>. The wires are broken to enable the cork to be withdrawn, and cannot be again united. In a modification, the lugs A<1> are omitted, and the wires directly embedded in the neck. The keeper may be omitted, or it may be secured by a metal band riveted &c. to the neck at one side and secured by knotted wires at the other. In another arrangement, a ball of such a size that it cannot be withdrawn is enclosed within the vessel during manufacture, and is provided with wires, which are knotted over the cork when the latter has been inserted. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the wires A, attached to the loose block G within the vessel, are threaded through holes in the screw stopper H, the ends being knotted together and sealed &c. in the recess A<2>. Fig. 7 shows a similar arrangement applied to the screw stopper or bung J of a cask.
