Abstract
26,472. Hentschel, J. Dec. 14. Steam-generator furnaces and fireboxes.-The air for combustion is introduced entirely above the fuel, and is forced to pass downwards through the fire by a hollow transverse partition a through which the boiler water circulates. The firebars are hollow to form water tubes, and may be fitted with internal circulation tubes k, as shown in Fig. 1. The ashpit, in the case of a locomotive firebox, is closed by a water space or solid bottom with a door h, such bottom being lined with refractory material, preferably with a mixture of asbestos, graphite, fireclay, and water glass. Fig. 4 shows the application of the invention to a Cornish boiler.
