Abstract

23,691. Schreiber, C. Nov. 10. Supports for bicycles. Rods b carrying small wheels b<1> are arranged to slide in guides c on the rear fork a, and are normally kept raised as shown, and locked by spring bolts. By pulling a chain &c. j, the rider releases the spring bolts, and the rods b fall by gravity until they touch the ground upon slightly raising them other spring bolts lock them in their lowered position. The rods are fitted with racks i<1> carried on arms i<2> which gear with toothed wheels i on the rear axle, so that, when the bicycle is stationary, the supports are held down, but, when it is moved forward, they are raised. To cause the racks to clear the toothed wheels during their descent, the chain is arranged to move slides, tappets g on which actuate shackles g<3> and push the racks backwards, the supports turning in their guides. The locking-bolts are actuated as required by levers and cams &c. The chain and the connected parts are returned by springs.
