Abstract

22,103. Roze, L. E. March 21, [date applied for under Sec. 103 of Patents &c. Act, A.D. 1883]. AÙrial machines with aÙrostats; aÙrostats -The machine has two aÙrostats that are nearly capable of supporting its weight and have a rigid casing of light material, such as aluminium. They are divided into compartments by transverse partitions r, and each compartment contains a fabric partition attached to them and the sides of the casing on the equatorial plane, so that, by admitting buoyant gas above the fabric, it forces it against the bottom of the casing, and, by exhausting the space above it in order to fill it with buoyant gas, it lies against the top of the casing. The two aÙrostats intercommunicate by pipes t. The enclosed case B is supported by a framework A, some members a of which pass right through the aÙrostats, and which extends below the aÙrostats to support the machine on land. The engine is supported on the car to prevent its immersion in case of a descent into water. There are two vertical propellers P, and two horizontal ones P', with a rudder G immediately behind the rear one. An aeroplane H, composed of valves hinged at their top edge and controlled from the car, is carried above or below the latter. The anchor, Fig. 6. comprises a heavy pointed head v which penetrates the ground and encloses flukes y, which are thrust out laterally when a pull comes on the shank u to which the cable is attached. The anchor is released by pressing down the shank to withdraw the flukes, and may be pulled up by rings attached to the head.
