Evaporating-furnaces; gas producers.-In a process for evaporating brine, gas, which is employed as the evaporative agent, is produced in gas-producers, into which steam from the evaporating-pan and hot air, heated by passing through a flue below the pan, are passed. This allows of the recovery afterwards of ammonia and cyanides from the gas. The gas obtained in the producers, after utilizing its sensible heat and separating ammonia and cyanides therefrom, is employed in a gas furnace which may be used to heat the brine pans. Two such furnaces are shown. The gas enters through two lateral flues L, extending the full length of the furnace, and escapes through lateral apertures L', where it meets with air entering through openings M<2>. Additional air may be admitted through apertures L'. At the rear of the furnace is a brick arch L', carrying at its forward end a brick screen 0 extending to the roof of the furnace, while at the forward end of the furnace is a grate M having a bridge M<1>. The grate is only used at the commencement of the operations to ignite the gas. The gases pass around the screen to right and left on their way to the outlet. A special valve for regulating the supply of gas may be used in the gas-supply pipe.
