Abstract

21,056. Jenkins, A. R. Oct. 6. Skates.-Roller skates are constructed to run on spherical balls in place of the usual rollers. Fig. 3 shows in section one end of a skate with the ball b, upon which one end of the skate runs, in position. Ball bearings e, suitably secured, are interposed between the skate and the main ball, the latter being retained in position by the ring f. To enable the skate to grip the ground when necessary, accessory wheels such as g are provided. They are mounted so that, when the skate is horizontal, the wheels are out of contact with the ground, but, on the skater desiring to make a stroke, an inclination of the skate brings a wheel against the ground, the necessary grip being then afforded.
