18,458. Adair, J. Aug. 29. Tyres, pneumatic; felloes or rims. - Relates principally to means for attaching tyres to rims, Specification No. 23,996, A.D. 1896, being referred to. Fig. 5 shows a partial longitudinal section, and Figs. 6 and 7 partial cross-sections through the edge of the cover. Attached to each edge of the outer cover A is a wire D which at one part is bent back upon itself to form a spring piece d. This spring usually occupies the position shown by Figs. 5, 6, and 7, but, when the tyre has to be detached, the spring is allowed to assume the arched form indicated by the dotted lines in Figs. 5 and 6, whereby the attaching-wire D is slackened. The spring piece is preferably held in a pocket E which may have a bead F to retain the spring piece in its usual position. In the form shown in Fig. 10, the spring piece d lies outside the pocket, and is retained in position by a flap G which is attached along one edge to the spring piece and along the other to the cover A. In modifications, the spring piece may be a distinct spring secured to the overlapping ends of the wire D. The rim may have a central elastic band upon which blocks of india-rubber are fixed at intervals to form a seat for the tyre cover. The cover has bands B, Fig. 1, which embrace the air tube and are secured by the interlocking ends b, b<1>.
