Abstract
6445. Hutchinson, W. E., and Newton, A. E. March 16. Derricks such as are used on board ship are suspended so that they swing in one direction more easily than in the other. As shown, the derrick a is pivoted, at its lower end, on a pin c in the usual way, while the stay d is attached to a block e which can be secured at any desired point to a semicircular bar g forming a part of a bracket bolted to the mast. The swing of the derrick is controlled by guys h passing to a winch l on to a compresser or stopper.
