Abstract

6088. Mein, R. March 12. Grates and fuel holders.-The firegrates of stoves and ranges are constructed with h a bottom grate which can be tilted for the removal of cinders and ashes when a fire is to be re-laid. The vertical front bars A are shorter than usual, with the exception of the side bars A', which extend backwards to the rail A<3>. The bottom grid C is provided with lugs or brackets C', and when the pin or catch D is raised it can be tilted forward about the pivots B so as to throw the ashes &c. out in front. The grate bottom shown in Fig. 8 can be employed when a smaller firebox is required. The lugs C' are much deeper, and when the ashes are to be removed the grate is tilted and pushed back until the bearing-surfaces C<3> rest on the pivots B as shown in dotted lines. Feet C‹ rest on the rail A<3>, and raised side walls C<5> surround the back part of the grid.
