Abstract

3686. Bennie, A. Feb. 14. Rollers are covered with a composition produced by boiling a mixture of leather dust, gelatine, india-rubber solution, glycerine, water, and acetic or tannic acid. The leather may be mixed with the other ingredients after they have been boiled together. Fig. 1 shows the method of compressing the composition a' upon the wooden bosses a of drawing-rollers. The roller is held by a bolt d between the base-plate b and a cover or cap c, while the annular plunger f of a suitable press compresses the composition to the desired extent upon the boss of the roller. The composition is made harder for the trap rollers of trap twisting-frames than for ordinary drawing- rollers. The composition is applied to the trap roller in a manner similar to that described above, the iron base-plate or end being secured by screws. The composition covering may be prevented from breaking away at the edges by means of discs or rings of wood, which are cemented or otherwise secured to the ends of the rollers.
