Abstract

30,747. Watkins, A. A., and Watson, J. de L. Dec. 29. Water-pressure engines.-Relates to engines for organ-blowing. The valve B regulating admission and exhaust to and from the working cylinder consists of ordinary piston valves D, E, and is actuated by pistons C, F. The piston C is made with twice the area of the piston F. The space to the right of the piston F is in permanent communication through a passage f with the chamber G to which the pressure water is admitted, and the space Q to the left of the piston C is placed alternately in communication with pressure and exhaust by a valve or cock K which is operated by tappets or other suitable mechanism from the crosshead of the engine at the end of its stroke. When the space Q is in communication with the pressure the valve is moved to the right, and when connected to the exhaust the valve moves to the left. Instead of having the piston F, the piston D may be made equal in area to the piston C, the manner of working remaining the same.
