Abstract
30,343. FourÚ, E. J. B., and Thuile, H. June 23, [date claimed under Sec. 103 of Patents &c. Act, A.D. 1883]. Electric locomotives and motor vehicles. - Consists essentially in the combination on the same framework of a largewheeled steam locomotive with an electric locomotive of which the motor dynamos are driven from an electrical plant arranged on the same frame, steam being furnished to the dynamo motors and to the steam-locomotive cylinders by a single boiler of special construction and great power. As shown in side elevation in Fig. 1, and in longitudinal section in Fig. 2, the locomotive is supported (1) at the centre by four steam-driven coupled wheels of large diameter ; (2) at the forward end by a bogie with three electrically-driven axles having small wheels ; and (3) at the rearward end by three trailing axles. Propulsion is effected continuously by the steam-driven wheels, as in ordinary locomotives, assisted in either a temporary or continuous manner by the electric bogie. The electric installation consists of two ordinary compound steam engines N symmetrically arranged on each side and driving a dynamo 0 between them. The driver's cab Q is also at the leading end, and forms a prow-shaped front.
