Abstract

29,604. Thompson, W. P., [Durr, F.]. Dec. 14. Friction gearing.-The wheel a, Fig. 1, is formed with driving-faces band c at different radii, with which engage corresponding faces m, n on the discs d, e which constitute the companion wheel. The discs are moved together or apart according as to whether it is desired to gear c and m or band n. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement for gearing shafts at an angle to each other ; the friction ring s engages between a pair of discs d, e pressed together by elastic rings x. By providing a series of rings on the disc r and a series of pairs of discs d, e, a variable ratio may be obtained.
