Abstract
20,562. Roelker, H. B. Sept. 7. Refrigerating. - Relates to cold-air machines. An air-expanding cylinder G and an air-compressing cylinder H are mounted alongside each other, and a steam cylinder I is mounted on the other side of the base A inclined to the air cylinders at 25‹ to 50‹. These drive on to a crank shaft C mounted in bearings outside the cranks in standards A<1>, the air-expanding cylinder being placed under the crank h and the others under i, g. Eccentrics E, E' on this shaft C drive two rock shafts R, R<1>, of which R has three arms r, r<1>, r<2>, operating the main slide valves of the three cylinders, and R<1> has two arms r<4>, r<5> operating the top slide or cut-off valves on the two air cylinders. The slide valve of the steam cylinder is placed at right-angles to the other valves. The machine is also provided with an accessory pump for supplying fresh air, a water trap U for drying this air, a water circulating pump, a water jacket for the air compressor, a casing Z in which the air-cooling coil is placed, a lubricating-oil trap, and the necessary air pipes, &c.
