Abstract

14,181. Glover, R. T., and Glover, J. G. June 10. Pressure gauges. - Bellows inflated by the gas pressure bring pressure to bear directly, through a lever, or through intermediate bellows, upon the mercury or other liquid in the gauge and raise its level until equilibrium is established. In the first two forms, the mercury is contained in a flexible bag. In the form shown, a U-tube E is employed, one leg being connected by a pipe S with small bellows K<1> which may be open to the atmosphere through the cock R until the test is to be made. The large bellows K in expanding, as the gas is introduced through the pipe L, causes a displacement of the mercury which is read off on the scale Q. The displacement being considerable for small changes of pressure, great accuracy of reading may be attained.
