Abstract

10,622. Alliott, J. B., and Paton, J. McC. C. April 28. Washing-machines.-Relates to locking-arrangements for rotary machines whereby the door cannot be opened when the driving-gear is connected, and the driving-gear cannot be connected unless the door is closed. Fig. 5 shows a portion of a rotary washing-machine. The door 2 is held closed by the lever 19, which is pivoted at 20 and passes round the screwed spindle 22 between the collars 21. The door is released by rotating the hand-wheel 7 which depresses the screwed spindle 22 raising the lever 19 and at the same time withdraws the clutch 6 from the driving-pulley 6<a> by means of the bent lever 9. Another form of apparatus is described in which a sliding rod is employed for effecting the same purposes With the latter appliance an arrangement may be made by which the machine can only be opened when the door of the inner cage is opposite the outer door.
