10,607. Howard, G., and Gibbs, G. April 28. Baling-presses.-Relates to a method of and means for tying up compressed bales of hay, straw, or the like with wire. In the plan, Fig. 2, a is the framing of the press, and ax the head of the ram. The wires c, c are drawn directly from reels b, b, and encircle three sides of the bale as it is pressed forward by the ram ; they are then drawn through in loops c' by needles or hooks d, and cut off ready for fastening by cutters g which also hold the ends of the wires while the next bale is being made. The reels b take the wire coils just as they are received from the manufacturers, and are provided with ratchets and detents released by the tightening of the wires, to prevent unnecessary unwinding.
