8788. Lake, H. H., [Dickerson, E. N., and Bettini, G.]. April 6. Phonographs are constructed with the cylinder 10 mounted on an a x l e, supported in a bearing in one post 6. The cylinder core also carries a driving-pulley 7 and worm - wheel 8. A sound chamber 15, having a diaphragm 16 and stylus 17, is mounted at the end of a bell mouthpiece 18 or tube. The mouthpiece or tube is pivotally supported on a post 11, adjustably secured to the base by a screw 12. The sound chamber is supported by a plate 9 gearing with the worm-wheel 8, and running on a wheel 27 carried by a rod 28. The guide is extended by a wire 30, suitably supported at its outer end. A constant pressure is maintained by a spring 33 attached to the mouthpiece &c. in its axial line, and either connected directly to the post 11 or to an arm 31 carried by the post.
