Abstract
8666. Brooks, S. H., Goodbehere, F. G., and Brooks, J. S. April 5. Winding-machines.-Yarn is wound in measured quantities on to paper or wood tubes &c. by means of a split drum winding-machine. The circumference of each drum is made some convenient standard of length and its axle carries a counting- mechanism, by which the number of revolutions of the drum and the length of yarn wound are recorded. Each bobbin or tube is mounted loosely upon a spindle E held by spring arms C in the upper parts d of a weighted swing or holder D. The latter is mounted upon a shaft G and is prevented from moving longitudinally thereon by a collar g, having a projection g<1> which engages with a slot in the swing. The machine is arranged to stop automatically when a certain length of yarn has been wound, by reason of the counting-mechanism being connected with a suitable stop-motion.
