The pedal shaft has a flywheel b keyed thereon for assisting the mechanism over the dead point-, and the usual seat e and the steering- handles k are furnished. To ensure the stability and steadiness of the boat, a trough or chamber m is sunk in the boat's bottom, or the keel is made hollow to accommodate the mechanism. In a modified arrangement, a boat is fitted for propulsion by two or more occupants.
