Tobacco.-Relates to machines in which the tobacco is usually rolled and twisted between three rollers having longitudinal sliding segments, and consists in an arrangement having four such rollers. The rollers b, b<1>, b<2>, b<3>, shown in section, are arranged in a circle at equal distances apart. The two side rollers b, b<2> are mounted in adjustable plates f mounted on the sides g of brackets g, g<1> pivoted on the shaft h, carried by a semicircular bracket i. The roller b<3> is mounted in two brackets secured to the brackets g, g<1>. The upper roller b<1> is in bearings l sliding vertically in a bracket l<1> pivoted at L, and locked in operative position by bolts o<2>, o<3> on a pivoted bracket o. The bearings l are pressed by springs l<2>. One of the brackets g, g<1> abuts against spring pins m. The rollers are driven by gearing. The space enclosed by the rollers, in which the tobacco is rolled, is preferably tapering so that the tobacco is rolled with increasing pressure as it passes through. This may be effected by placing the axes of the rollers at an angle, or by making the rollers in conical form. The conical form may be varied by changing the sliding segments. The tobacco is fed from the table c at the end of the set of rollers, and covering-leaf at one side. A tape is fed under the small roller q and wound spirally on the twisted and pressed tobacco.
