Abstract

4507. Atkinson, H. T. Feb. 19. Stoppers; re-filling, preventing.-Relates to bottles which cannot be re-filled after having been once emptied. A valve seat B for the valve A is secured within the neck by the washer D, the valve being surrounded by a cage C affixed to the valve seat. The valve is normally held on its seat by the inclined arms C<1> of the cage and the weighted pin A<2> of the valve, except when the bottle is tilted past the horizontal position. The valve thus permits the contents to be poured out, but prevents liquid from being poured into the bottle. A float E, placed above the valve A, by bearing on the end A<1> of the weighted pin, prevents liquid from being forced in when the bottle is inverted. Instead of employing a separate float, the end A<1> of the pin may be provided with a holluw globe to act as a float. In the mouth of the bottle is placed a supplementary neck F, closed at the bottom and furnished with lateral ports F<2> for the passage of the liquid, this neck being fixed by cement introduced into the grooves F<3>. The neck is closed by an ordinary cork, and is provided with a key or plunger G, which, when the cork is inserted, bears on the float E and prevents displacement of the float and valve n transport.
