Abstract
189,399. Whitworth, M. April 28, 1922. Addition to 164,270. Inclined-trough washing-apparatus; jigs.-In the apparatus for separating ore from gangue described in the parent Specification, the perforated plate 10 and preferably the whole sluice box is inclined downwardly towards the feed end, that is in the reverse direction to the flow, and the perforations in the plate, are substantially at right-angles thereto, thus obviating the necessity of their being drilled at an angle to the vertical. The mixture of ore and gangue is fed with water down a slope 15, over the permanently secured end-plate 12, into the tank 4 having a perforated plate 10 covering the compartments 5 which are formed by the walls 6, the slope of the apparatus being adjusted by means of the framework 13. Water is supplied to each compartment 5 by means of the branch pipes 8 from a common supply pipe 7 connected to a variable head of water. The jets issuing through the perforations in the plate 10 raise the material and force it back, the heavier particles settling on the plate 10 as shown by the dotted lines 17, 18, 19, whilst the lighter particles are raised to the top and receive the full force of the flow of the stream and are carried forward and swept over the adjustable weir plate 14. When the heavies have accumulated to the position shown by line 19, the feeding of the material is stopped and the sluice, box emptied.
