Abstract

189,238. Hopson, J. Aug. 29, 1921. Buffers.-In a buffer for railway trucks or wagons, the buffer shell is of a flattened conical shape having elongated or oval sections in planes parallel to the base, the base being correspondingly elongated so as to distribute the force of impact over an extended area of the headstock. The buffer shell 5 forms a bearing 10 at the apex to guide the buffer rod 4, the other end of the rod being guided by a hole in the plate 7 situated between the base of the buffer shell and the headstock. The base 6 of the shell is elongated or of oval shape, a section through the buffer shell, taken in a plane parallel to the base 6, being of corresponding shape to the base. The buffer shell may be cast or pressed in halves with flanges along the sides for securing the halves together. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 284/94, 7750/04, 1774/10, 2417/11, and 29630/13.
