Abstract

Furs, skins, hairs, feathers &c., are dyed in a solution of a halogen or nitro-derivative of 4-amino-1-oxybenzene in presence of an oxidizing agent with or without mordants. In an example the well-washed skin is dyed in a bath containing 2-chlor-4-amino-1-oxybenzene, ammonia and hydrogen peroxide, brown tints being obtained. Brown shades are obtained with chromium or copper mordants, while with iron mordants the tints are reddish-brown. 2, 6-Dichlor-4-amino-1-oxybenzene gives greenish-gray tints and 2-nitro-4-amino-1-oxybenzene reddish-brown shades with chromium or copper modants.
