Jackets and covers.- A cord tyre foundation is formed by winding a continuous length of twoply crossed-cord strip on to a core whilst under uniform and continuous tension. Fig. 3 shows such a strip comprising layers A, B of a length suflicient for the underbead plies and wider layers C, D for the overhead plies. The oblique ends of the layers are arranged to leave singleply portions E, F, G, H which are lapped in the finished tyre as shown in Fig. 6. Muslin strips K are placed between the rolled up strip at the commencement of the overhead portion to permit the insertion of the bead cores. J.
