Abstract

Electric and magnetic; applied by weights.-A machine for filling and stoppering bottles is driven by an electric motor through gearing and a conical clutch, and surrounding the outer clutch member is a brake band carried by a brake lever 373, which extends into a casing 374. Within the casing is a foot lever 376 adapted to be moved from the dotted line to the full line position to raise the lever 373 to release the brake. A friction roller 377 on the lever 373 co-operates with the foot lever and is adapted to engage a switch arm 378 to close the circuit of the driving- motor. At the same time, an armature 379 engages the core of a magnet 380 which is energized during the running of the machine and holds up the brake lever. If for any reason the circuit is broken, the brake lever drops, opens the switch 378 of the motor, and applies the brake, the action of which may be regulated by a stop screw 381.
