Abstract

187,116. Rees, W. J. Sept. 21, 1921. Self-driving machines.-A self-driving gravity motor is operated by one or more pairs of weights .1 which are raised and allowed to fall by an equal number of pairs of balanced levers 19 which are locked in the limiting positions and released at fixed and equal periods during the cycle of operations. Levers 4 are oscillated by the rising and falling of the weights 1 and by means of connecting-rods 7, and cranks 6 drive a shaft 8 which transmits its motion to a set of wheels 9. Each wheel 9 is provided with a radial arm 12 which arms, by means of cords 14, bell crank levers 13, 17, and cords 18, operate the balanced levers 19. Each pair of levers 19 is connected by a cord 21 passing over a pulley 22. The locking and releasing means comprise a pivoted rod 25, mounted above the pivot 19<a> of the balanced lever 19, on the lower end of which rod is a roller 26 adapted to co-operate with a runway 27 in such a way that the roller is on one side or the other of the pivot 19<a> to lock the lever 19 in its upper or lower position. The rods 25 are operated from the shaft 8 by cranks 28 and connecting-rods 29.
