Abstract
187,019. Rowsome, W. E. July 12, 1921. Tyre and like inflating and deflating valves. -The valve casing is externally threaded and formed with a seating 4 to receive a hollow plug 9 which is screwed into the casing. The plug 9 is formed with a reduced portion 12 against which a washer 12 is adapted to form a closure, and the other end is screwed to receive a cap 14 which forms a closure with the plug 9 at 15. The valve member 19 is provided with a threaded stem to receive the cap 14, and the other end is squared at 21 to engage a squared section 7 of the casing. The packing washer 24 rests on a shoulder of the member 19 and is enclosed over the whole of its depth by a ferrule 25. A helical spring 27 presses the valve 19 to its seat. In operation, the plug 9 is screwed into the casing to engage the seating 4 and the packing 24, and the cap 14 is then screwed on to the plug 9 and stem 20 to draw the valve 19 on to its seat. To inflate the tube, the cap 14 is removed and the nipple of the air tube screwed on thus lifting the valve 19 from its seat. The valve has three closure surfaces when closed.
